How to use the thumbnail videos

(If you have questions or comments, please contact lipscomb-@-ripco.com.)

Due to space limitations, the videos of the Huggins Lectures are formated to 160 pixels x 120 pixels--about the size of a postage stamp.

Still, even a video this size can be useful.  Unlike static slides and plain audio,
  • The videos show the laser pointer and its motions.

  • The videos recreate the video clips shown during the lecture.

  • The videos give timely clues about when to switch slides, and about which slide is currently being discussed.
Here's how to use the video to supplement the slides.  (See screenshot.)

1. Download and save one of the lecture videos from http://margrover.com/huggins

2. Load (but don't run) the video.  (Use a video player that can handle flash files.
One of the better freeware players is called Videolan. You can download it from
http://www.videolan.org/. Look for the phrase "Download Now.") )

3. Drag the video player all the way to the right edge of your video screen.

4. Download and open the corresponding set of lecture slides from http://ben-may.bsd.uchicago.edu/bmi2/news/huggins_lectures/2008/cannon_lecture.html

5. Switch  the slide viewer into "Medium" mode, by clicking on the "double-square" near the top right corner of the viewer window.

6. Uncover the screen of  the video player by dragging the right edge of the viewer towards the left..

7. Start the video.

8. Scroll the slide viewer as needed, to keep the slides in sync with the video.
